Natural Gas Compression, Certificate 1

Department

(TSI-Waived Program)

The Natural Gas Compression Certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in the operation and maintenance of gas compression equipment. The curriculum provides a foundation in mechanical systems, electrical fundamentals, and safety practices required to support compressor operations in the field.

Students develop hands-on skills in hydraulics, small engine systems, electrical theory, and blueprint reading, along with an introduction to natural gas production processes. Emphasis is placed on equipment operation, basic maintenance, and the ability to identify and troubleshoot common issues in compression systems.

Safety, efficiency, and equipment reliability are reinforced throughout the program to align with industry expectations. Graduates are prepared to support compression technicians and operations personnel in maintaining compressor sites and production equipment.

Job Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of industrial machinery mechanics, maintenance workers, and millwrights is projected to grow 13% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than average, with approximately 49,100 job openings each year. Growth is driven by increased automation and the need for skilled technicians to maintain and repair complex industrial equipment. Multi-skilled technicians with electrical and mechanical training are in particularly high demand.
