Petroleum Technology, Certificate 2

Department

(TSI-Waived Program)

The Petroleum Technology Certificate program is designed to build technical skills for careers in oil and gas production and field operations. The curriculum expands on foundational knowledge with training in mechanical systems, electrical controls, and equipment used in production environments.

Students develop hands-on skills in motor control, blueprint reading, and mechanical systems, including engines, pumps, and compressors. Additional training introduces compression systems and supporting equipment used in oil and gas operations.

Emphasis is placed on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and the ability to support field activities in real-world production settings. Graduates are prepared to assist in production operations, equipment maintenance, and field support roles within the energy industry.

Job Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of industrial machinery mechanics, maintenance workers, and millwrights is projected to grow 13% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than average, with approximately 49,100 job openings each year. Growth is driven by increased automation and the need for skilled technicians to maintain and repair complex industrial equipment. Multi-skilled technicians with electrical and mechanical training are in particularly high demand.
