Incomplete Grades

Incomplete (“I”) is a temporary grade issued after a course’s withdraw date has passed indicating that a student has satisfactorily completed the requirements of a course except for a final examination or other work delayed by a pregnancy and/or parenting issues, illness, emergency, or legal obligation. The grade of “I” is neutral and is not included in any grade point calculation. The student must provide the instructor documentation of the extenuating circumstances that warrant an incomplete grade. In the absence of a department policythe instructor must secure permission from the Department Chair, Dean, and Vice President of Instruction before awarding an “I”. Any exceptions must be approved by the Vice President of Instruction.

Incomplete grades will only be issued with detailed instructional plans for fulfilling outstanding work. All instructional plans commence on the first day after the term’s end and follow a schedule, set by the instructor, that may not exceed half of a course’s originally scheduled term length. If a student fails to complete the instructional plans, the unfinished work will receive an automatic “F”, and the student shall receive a final course grade that results from all the properly calculated assignment grades.
